🔒 Plain English summary: We collect only what we need to run ShakoMako. We never sell your data. ShakoMako is for ages 13 and up. You can delete your account and all data at any time.

ShakoMako is operated by BSoft (bsoft.ca), based in Canada. We provide a multilingual language learning application accessible at shakomako.ai.

2. Information We Collect

We collect the following information when you use ShakoMako:

Account information: Email address, name, and age group (provided during signup)
Learning data: Lessons completed, XP earned, streak history, and quiz scores
Payment information: In-app purchases are processed by Apple's App Store (on iOS) or Google Play (on Android); web purchases are processed by Stripe. We never see or store your full payment card details.
Device information: Browser type, device type, and general location (country level only)
Usage data: Which features you use, how often, and for how long

We do not collect precise location, phone numbers, social media profiles, or any sensitive personal information.

3. Children's Privacy

⚠️ Age requirement: ShakoMako is intended for users aged 13 and older and is not directed at children under 13. Users between 13 and 18 should use ShakoMako with a parent or guardian's agreement. Parents may contact us at privacy@shakomako.ai with any questions about a teen's account.

We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we learn that we have collected personal information from a child under 13, we will delete it promptly. If you believe a child under 13 has created an account, please contact us immediately at privacy@shakomako.ai.

4. How We Use Your Information

Provide and improve the ShakoMako learning experience
Track your learning progress and maintain streaks
Process payments and manage subscriptions
Send transactional emails (password resets, subscription confirmations)
Send streak reminder emails (you can unsubscribe at any time)
Analyze usage to improve our lessons and features

We do not sell your data, build advertising profiles, or share it with anyone except the service providers described in this policy. We do use basic conversion measurement to understand whether our own ads lead to sign-ups (see Cookies below).

5. Data Sharing

We share your data only with trusted service providers who help us operate ShakoMako:

Supabase — database and authentication (supabase.com)
Apple — in-app purchase processing on iOS (apple.com)
Google — in-app purchase processing on Android (google.com)
Stripe — payment processing on the web (stripe.com)
Resend — transactional email (resend.com)

All service providers are bound by data processing agreements and are prohibited from using your data for their own purposes.

6. Your Rights (GDPR & PIPEDA)

You have the right to:

Access your personal data
Correct inaccurate data
Delete your account and all associated data
Export your data in a portable format
Opt out of marketing emails at any time
Withdraw consent at any time

7. Data Retention

We keep your data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we permanently delete all your personal data within 30 days, except where we are legally required to retain it (e.g., payment records for tax purposes, retained for 7 years).

8. Cookies

ShakoMako uses essential cookies for authentication and session management. On our website, we also use Google Ads conversion cookies to measure our advertising — for example, to recognize when someone who clicked one of our ads later creates an account. Our website traffic analytics (Cloudflare Web Analytics) are cookieless. We do not use cookies to profile you or track you across unrelated websites, and we never sell your data. You can control ad personalization anytime in your Google account's Ads Settings.

9. Security

We protect your data using industry-standard security measures including encryption in transit (HTTPS/TLS), encrypted storage, and secure authentication. However, no system is 100% secure — if you believe your account has been compromised, contact us immediately.

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes via email and update the "Last updated" date above. Your continued use of ShakoMako after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
